Guidelines for Photography of Children (and pets)
- At all times a parent or guardian MUST be with the subject, no exceptions.
- Bring along a favourite toy, book or other object they like (not oversized as this will draw attention from the child, small toys in same colours as clothing work best).
- Bring a couple of changes of clothing or maybe even a costume or two if they like dressing up.
- Parents – be prepared to be in the image as well if the child becomes uncomfortable or wary.
- If the child is photosensitive (i.e. epilepsy) then please bring any controlling medicines with you. Although it is rare, it has been known for epileptic children to have a seizure induced by the strobe lighting used in studio lighting. If unsure, then an outdoor session using natural lighting would be more advisable.
- Although I would prefer it if accidents didn’t happen, from time to time they may. In the unfortunate times they do happen I am a qualified first aider.
- Please refrain from bringing any other non-participant children with you for the session as they may distract the subject and may complicate matters. I am not responsible for any poor images that are a result of the client circumventing this guideline.
- Please ensure the subject is clean when they arrive. We all know how easy it is for children to miraculously become grubby, even in the absence of any dirt. Avoid giving them sweets before they arrive.
- If photographing a baby or smaller child, then feeding them approximately half an hour before arrival is advised, this helps placate the child and ensures a smooth photography session.
